Writing & Recording my music

Writing is an interesting process.  It is something that I am continually learning and don’t think I”ll ever be exceptional at.  As with anything it takes hours and hours of writing in order to master the skill.  Time is something I don’t have a lot of these days with young kids!  They’re screaming at each other right now as I try to write this…ugh!  It’s hard to make time, and force creativity in that small window!  I try to set aside time to write when I can, and sometimes when I’m lucky, I get inspired and it just comes to me.  At that moment I have to either write it down or record the idea on my phone.  I have a ton of silly sounding recordings on it, but many times a song is formed from the silliness.  Some songs take a lot of effort and others just come right out.  The ones that are easy have been the ones that are the best.  Some songs have been a divine gift to me and I feel like I didn’t even write them.  Those songs have been healing to me and I hope healing to others.  Those are obviously my favorites!

Some songs start with a melody, others with words.  Once I put the two together I take it to the producer and let him know what I have in my head musically with a reference song or parts of songs.  This way the producer can get the vibe I’m going for.  He then starts with chords and begins to build the music.  We brought in musicians to complete the songs with their individual musicality, something that you can’t always feel with his keyboard instruments alone.  Once we did this, the music really came alive.  I am so fascinated by my producer, Nathan Furst, and his musical talent.  He is so gifted and I am always blown away with what he comes up with.  I call him my Musical Lover…he just gets me!  Ha!  I feel so blessed to have had his time and talent on my EP.  So far I’ve been involved in the whole recording process until now.  The songs will be mixed soon and I hope I can also be a part of that process.  I’m learning as I go and am enjoying every moment!  I hope you enjoy the end result!

Take care,
